some weekend bits

by kmcopeland

The Swede and I had a great weekend – the highlight was a birthday celebration for one of my friends that involved authentic Louisiana hurricanes and lots of dancing. Unfortunately, I did not make it home with any photos worth sharing. I did, however, manage to get a(nother) cracked iPhone. This is, I’m sure, not at all surprising for those of you who know me.

But we also went to Copenhagen last weekend and I just got around to going through the pictures. So I thought I’d share a few of my favourites from that day instead…

Back in December, the Swede and I went to London for a long weekend to see my brother. I’ve been there before but was in serious tourist mode (must see this church, that tower, this museum). This time, I just explored. No plans, no must-see’s – just wandering around the different neighborhoods. We hit Portobello Rd and its amazingly large (and awesome) market, the streets of Camden town, and the vintage and record shops of Soho. We rounded off the trip with the obligatory fish and chips, Sunday roast and pints-a-plenty.

What a lovely, lovely city.

This might answer the question of where I’ve been! Friends came to visit from the US and we traveled around Sweden, hitting Stockholm, Kalmar and Karlskrona (a new favorite).  We had ourselves a good ol’ time. I thought I’d share some random snapshots taken with my iPhone while I work up a for realz post.  Enjoy!

These light and bright interior photos shot by Danish photographer Ditte Isager are a good reminder that summer is right around the corner…

take five [paul raeside]

by kmcopeland

I can’t remember now where I first saw Paul Raeside’s interior photography, but I find myself going through his portfolio quite often. Something about the way he captures the light really appeals to me – somehow very serious and introspective, and maybe even a little bit sad. This Monday, take five minutes to enjoy the photography of Paul Raeside.

by kmcopeland

…you visited the blog today? Orange has really been grabbing my eye lately.  I think that, used in the right amount, it adds a dramatic and fun dose of color to a room or outfit.  Plus, it’s just pretty! So this Monday’s take five is all about giving you a five minute break from the boring and bringing some orange into your life. Enjoy!

moving moments

by kmcopeland

Don’t worry, I’m still alive! Sorry for the sudden radio silence. This week was the big move to the new apartment and I thought I’d have time to post some things to the blog, but I have not had one moment’s rest! Expect things to be back up and running this weekend!

I thought I’d begin by sharing some of the photos I took throughout the week while moving and settling in…

take five [a swedish easter]

by kmcopeland

This weekend, I was out and about enjoying my first Swedish Easter. With temperatures above 60 degrees, it was also my first taste of Sweden in the spring! It was a lovely weekend, so I decided to share some of the photographs the Swede and I took.

  1. I love the Swedish tradition of tying feathers to plants to celebrate the start of spring
  2. We took in some art in Konstrundan (“The Art Trail”), a huge art exhibit that takes place on Easter weekend every year in Österlen (an area of southern Sweden). Artists open up their studios and people come from all over to tour the countryside, look at excellent local art, and enjoy the beginning of spring weather.
  3. A breathtaking sunset in Österlen, shot from the road!
  4. Tulips in Malmö
  5. Delightful chocolate cake with a hint of orange, baked by Henrik’s mom
