this and that

Just a few things my little heart desires right now. Oh spring, I’m ready for you.

Alive and well

by kmcopeland

Wow. Where did those three weeks go? As most of you know, I got a job (yays!). While I’m beyond excited about the opportunity, it has definitely been an adjustment for me going from an, ahem, lady of leisure to a working woman. I don’t have the time that I once had – especially when you consider the three hours I spend commuting each day. Then when I get home I’m hitting the gym, playing with my dog, trying to be a good spouse or (most often the case) just plain worn out.

So, things have been so busy lately and, unfortunately, the blog is what’s fallen to the back burner. It’s not that I no longer enjoy doing it – I actually really miss it – it’s just that it takes a lot more time than you’d think to create thoughtful posts day in and day out! And I’d rather post nothing at all than something blah just for the sake of having a post.

I don’t typically get too personal on this blog, but because I think some of you might really care, I thought the radio silence was worth addressing. I want to keep blogging and sharing things that strike my fancy, but I’d also (if it’s ok with y’all, of course) like to get a bit more personal and share things from my everyday life. And before I go and change everything, I’d really like to know what y’all think. Any certain categories of posts that you’d hate to see disappear forever? Anything you don’t care if you never see again? Anything you want me to talk about more? Please, do tell.

In the meantime, I promise I’ll be better about posting more often.

friday’s fancy [tulips]

by kmcopeland

When I saw these fields of tulips, I couldn’t help but smile. It was comforting knowing that somewhere in the world, it is in fact spring. So, today’s fancy is an ode, of sorts, to tulips and the warm fuzzy feeling I get when I think of the season they represent.  It’s simple, really: a striped field of pretty tulips + a pattern-rich and colorful bedroom + sassy hot pink pants = happiness.  I can’t wait for those pretty Swedish spring & summer days I’ve heard so much about.  Hope you have a happy Friday!

sad/happy

by kmcopeland

Sad because we didn’t get the flat we bid on. The old lady who currently resides there couldn’t move out until late July. Not sure if she was really aware of what month it was when she put her apartment up for sale, because I would assume people looking for apartments now want to move in sooner than 6 months from now. But whatever, i’m not bitter.

Happy because I went semi-thrifting this weekend and scored some pretty sweet things, if I do say so myself. I would regret making these purchases since we now don’t have a flat to put them in, but they’re too awesome to hate on.

Find 1: this SICK miniature rattan fan chair. The Swede was all “what purpose will it serve?” And I’m all, “I’m not really sure but I don’t really care because it’s awesome just sitting there being itself!” (Yes I know I need to vignette it up, but we are utterly accessory-less at the moment, so bare with me a couple of months.)

Find 2: a diz-ope vintage table cloth that I realize now is kind of hard to see in this pic. It’s orange, red, yellow and purple and is just the happiest darn table cloth I’ve ever seen. Can’t wait to use it on the dining room table we don’t currently have! That chair he’s sitting on is another thrift find that was technically free (we got it thrown in when we purchased yet another thrifted item). It rivals the tablecloth’s dopeness.

So there you have it, sad but also happy. A mixed bag of emotions, if you will.

For the Birds

by kmcopeland

Came across this pillow in Furbish Studio’s online shop and I heart it. Buy it here.

Or you could go tropical with these vintage ones on Ebay for only $10! Buy here.

Either way, someone should buy some bird pillows, then send me pics of them in your place so I can live vicariously through you. Deal?

Busted

by kmcopeland

The ladies at Desire to Inspire told me that Jonathan Adler thinks I should start a collection. How about busts?

As you can see, the possibilities are endless. Personally, I’m partial to the hat donning bust…he seems like a true gentleman. What’s your favorite?

*Important side note: In pulling this post together, I discovered that Kelly Wearstler also loves busts. She just started blogging, too. I think we should be BFF’s.

**I pinned this pic to pinterest incorrectly and therefore can’t find the source again. Help me out if you know it!

CONFESSIONS

by kmcopeland

My name is Katie and I am a throw pillow addict. To be perfectly honest, I have never met a throw pillow I did not like.  With the magic ability to transform a cold and uninviting room into a cozy abode, they just scream “home” to me.  There is always a place in my house for just…one…more.

So, imagine my excitement when I came across these vintage embroidered pillow covers at Myrorna (my favorite thrift store)!

I can see them working like so:

Print {Pedlars}, Lamp {Furbish Studio}, Sofa {Swedese}, Rug {West Elm}

What do you think? Are you feelin’ the throw pillow love?

Liberation

by kmcopeland

In the fall of 2010, my husband and I made a big decision. We would sell our house and all of our possessions – that’s right, ALL of our possessions – and move to Sweden.  Overwhelming? Of course. Exciting? Yes! But most of all, liberating. A tabula rasa; clean canvas; blank slate. Oh the freedom! I could now justify getting rid of those 1970s-in-a-bad-way dressers, that guest bed we hated but it was free, that “artwork” my husband couldn’t possibly part with…

I can hear your collective gasp of excitement! I too am ecstatic about finding that perfect flat and creating the house of my (ever-evolving) dreams. While in the house of my reality (a 300 square foot flat that is virtually empty), I will amuse myself with daydreams of all the things I will do when that day comes.  I invite you to join me on my adventure!

We begin with some wishful thinking…

Those windows!

Nice and simple

Those antlers...that green chair!

Sigh. That is all.

Now this is a bookcase.
