shades of gray

by kmcopeland

Some things that have caught my eye lately. I know it’s spring and I’m supposed to be all, “I love neons!”, but I could never turn my back on some nice muted neutrals (as long as I get to throw in some mint every now and then).  And that room has the exact feeling I wish my home had. What do you think the secret is?

Also, pug cards are awesome! (Thanks, Camilla!)

five things monday

by kmcopeland

Mondays are hard when you’re a commuter. When the alarm clock rings at that ungodly hour, I’m always convinced that I’ve somehow made a mistake in setting it. I think it’s because the weekends lull you into this relaxed state where you’re no longer bound to a train’s time table – you’re an independent person with actual free will! It’s lovely. But then comes Monday and reality hits. But today I am choosing to fight my case of the Mondays with five things that make me think maybe this day isn’t so bad.

take five [art wall]

by kmcopeland

I am trying to decide how to put up our art on the large wall in our living room, and it turns out that this is an agonizing decision for me.  Every time I think I have committed to something, I see another picture that makes me doubt my original decision.

I love, love, love the floor to ceiling look, but I did that it in our last house so I am feeling a little “been there, done that” about it. But, I see all of pretty pictures like these and I think it’s not so bad to stick with something if you love it.

The Old Brand New / The Selby / The Selby / Hus och Hem / Remodelista

The cluster I could get behind because it’s really just a toned down, reined in version of the above option. It still has the whimsy, especially when the art seems to trail off, almost like there’s much more to the story!  Another positive – it doesn’t require such an extensive art collection.

The type-A in me likes the order and neatness of the straight rows.

Argh, thought this would help. Not so much. My goal is to have the outlines up this week, so I’ll keep you posted on how it turns out…

take five [paul raeside]

by kmcopeland

I can’t remember now where I first saw Paul Raeside’s interior photography, but I find myself going through his portfolio quite often. Something about the way he captures the light really appeals to me – somehow very serious and introspective, and maybe even a little bit sad. This Monday, take five minutes to enjoy the photography of Paul Raeside.

take five [orange you glad]

by kmcopeland

…you visited the blog today? Orange has really been grabbing my eye lately.  I think that, used in the right amount, it adds a dramatic and fun dose of color to a room or outfit.  Plus, it’s just pretty! So this Monday’s take five is all about giving you a five minute break from the boring and bringing some orange into your life. Enjoy!

take five [a swedish easter]

by kmcopeland

This weekend, I was out and about enjoying my first Swedish Easter. With temperatures above 60 degrees, it was also my first taste of Sweden in the spring! It was a lovely weekend, so I decided to share some of the photographs the Swede and I took.

  1. I love the Swedish tradition of tying feathers to plants to celebrate the start of spring
  2. We took in some art in Konstrundan (“The Art Trail”), a huge art exhibit that takes place on Easter weekend every year in Österlen (an area of southern Sweden). Artists open up their studios and people come from all over to tour the countryside, look at excellent local art, and enjoy the beginning of spring weather.
  3. A breathtaking sunset in Österlen, shot from the road!
  4. Tulips in Malmö
  5. Delightful chocolate cake with a hint of orange, baked by Henrik’s mom

take five [moss green]

by kmcopeland

Via Bolaget

I have been thinking that moss would be the perfect color for the bedding in our new place, and today I decided to find justification for this whim in my take five Monday. Needless to say, I was not disappointed. Cozy? Check. Inviting? Definitely. A bit unexpected? I think so.

But wait, there’s more!…

via decor8

I love how it can be both feminine and masculine, and I was pleasantly surprised to see how well it paired with a wide range of colors. I am especially loving the idea of keeping our walls stark white and pairing it with teak like in the first picture. How perfectly Scandinavian of me. What are your thoughts? Do tell.

take five [lucite]

by kmcopeland

Via desiretoinspire

I will have something lucite in my new home. Here in Sweden where it’s so popular to keep things very white, I feel like a lucite piece would lend an element of interest to what could otherwise be a pretty boring palette. I would LOVE some Ghost chairs like the ones pictured above, but they are currently outside of my price range (like, way outside). If you live in the US, Target makes a knock off that’s actually pretty good! But I do not live in the US so this does not help me. Some other ideas to consider:

Via Apartment Therapy

Dark, bold colors seem less serious and heavy with a lucite table in the top picture (also really love those gold shelves), and a lucite coffee table or lamp are both easy options. I’m interested to hear your thoughts, so please share!

And, of course, have a Happy Monday!
