well hello, j. crew

by kmcopeland

I got an email today from my friends at J. Crew informing me that they’re now shipping all the way to Sweden.  And they’re giving me free shipping, free returns and duty-free shopping all the way until April 30th! In celebration of this momentous day, I did a little browsing. Here are a few of my top picks for spring…

friday’s fancy

by kmcopeland

Sailing trips of late have made me realize that I am seriously lacking in sea-worthy attire. These items should fix that problem right up…And remember this DIY bracelet that I wanted to make? That’s the colorful bracelet shown above. Yay for craftiness! Hope you have a lovely weekend!

Pictorial justification for my recent purchase of high waisted jeans from Monki. Have already worn them several times and can’t get enough.

friday’s fancy [valborg]

by kmcopeland

This weekend, called valborg in Swedish, is a pretty big deal here in Sweden. It’s a celebration of the beginning of spring – a big welcome party if you will – that they celebrate by lighting a huge fire in city center.  Rumor has it that it’s one massive party with lots of singing and eating and drinking. Needless to say, I’m looking forward to it! This week’s fancy is the outfit I wish I could wear…

maxed out

by kmcopeland

Clockwise from top left, images via here, here, here, here, here and here

Man these girls look cool. I feel like the maxi skirt very European in that nonchalant, thrown together yet polished kind of way. And that’s what I need more of in my wardrobe. Also, it appears that if you go maxi on the bottom, you can go sloppy up top. Baggy sweatshirt with big flowy skirt down low? I’m in!

Options I’m considering:

Long Skirt, $38 [Need Supply], Basic Wonder Skirt, $33 [Mod Cloth] or Silence & Noise Long Knit Skirt, $50 [Urban Outfitters]

Also, boobs.

madewell, spring

by kmcopeland

Dear Madewell,

Please start shipping to Sweden. If I could, I would buy everything you are selling right now. You just do tomboy so well. Each of these outfits are no-fuss and no-frills, but they still manage to be just girly enough. I am also seriously loving the color combination of coral, cobalt blue, bronze and blush.

Sincerely,
Katie

On Target

by kmcopeland

Big news – Target is celebrating its 5 year anniversary of its designer collaborations with a special Go International collection that drops March 13. The collection features pieces from 17 of the designers that Target has previously collaborated with, and FabSugar offered a sneak peak last week. Best of all? Every item is under $50.

I hesitate to write this because maybe I’m just in a mood and will love them tomorrow, but I’m a little disappointed with the collection. They are all re-releases-nothing that you haven’t seen before. And overall the selection left me with a feeling of…meh. You should definitely go here and check them out for yourselves, but the only ones I am mildly excited about are:

On a more positive note, Target has some really cute stuff in home goods that make me really, really miss my Sunday afternoon shopping sessions. I see this being a monthly feature on this here blog. What do you think?

To all my baby-making friends: I hope you like hippos because Auntie Katie is going to be the official hippo lady.

Trendspotting: 70s Chic

by kmcopeland

In case you haven’t heard, the 70’s are back in full force. From the runways to home decor, the decade is having a major moment, and I kind of like it. Not in the avocado shag carpeting with orange kitchen kind of way so much as the craftsy kitsch meets 70’s glam kind of way.

Would I run wild with it in my entire house? I’d like to think not. But I do think the individual items are pretty sick on their own. Just look at that owl letter holder and tell me you aren’t happily humming the tune to “Three’s Company” and fantasizing about terrycloth onesies.

For the House:

1. Bargello Red & Blue Rug, $170 [Clayton Gray Home]
2. Springbok Benches, $1698 [Anthropologie]
3. Woods Wallpaper, Coral, $198 [Anthropologie]
4. Caviar Pendant Cluster Light, $3300 [Clayton Gray Home]
5. Owl Letter Holder, $24 [Urban Outfitters]
6. Fluted Curved Stool, $299 [Room & Board]
7. Midas Collection Glassware, $25-$60 [Design Within Reach]

For your Closet:

1. Dipped Front Shirt, $63 [ASOS]
2. Wooden Disks Necklace, $54 [ASOS]
3. Catarzi Felt Floppy Hat, $54 [ASOS]
4. Faux Snakeskin Platform Wedges, $150 [Topshop]
5. Rose Tiered Chiffon Maxi Dress, $135 [Topshop]
6. Vintage Flare Jeans, $70 [Gap]
