Sunday stalking

by kmcopeland

My ideal Sunday morning involves a big cup of coffee and Hemnet (Sweden’s real estate listing site). It’s fun to pretend that I could just pack up tomorrow and move into a bigger place. Preferably with fishbone floors. And a nice, big balcony. Today’s treat is this 4 room apartment in the Slöttstaden neighborhood of Malmö.

I want an apartment big enough for a wall of bookcases. Filled with books that I haven’t read yet (but will some day).

My favorite part is definitely the kitchen. The floors are amazing. And look how much cabinet space there is! Plus, I want those gold lamps. Real bad.

You can buy it here.

a little like freedom

by kmcopeland

alittlelikefreedom

These are the things that I find on the internet and think, “well gd, I wish I woulda thought of that.” Corbin LaMont created this project, A Little Like Freedom, in which she printed 20 copies of 25 different posters and hung them on the streets of Portland. Each poster is a dedication to one person she has encountered in her life. As she describes it:

“This is about your ex-lovers, your ex-darlings and your unrequited love…These are the thoughts, memories and unsaid words left behind. The afterthoughts. One sentence for one person who has been in your life.”

She did the first 25 and then started accepting admissions, so the last 25 are reader-submitted. And they’re all so good. Pretty effing brilliant. It’s definitely worth taking a looksie.

Not too hard to guess what I’m looking forward to, is it? My goal for the spring is to create my own little indoor garden. Preferably one that is impossible to kill (given my record with household plants). Any suggestions as to what I should include?

run tell that

by kmcopeland

It’s been a while since I’ve done one of these posts, but I’d like to start getting in the habit again. Here’s a few of my favorite things from the past few weeks:

1 – a fun DIY
2 – Scout & Catalogue’s new lookbook, found via this pretty blog
3 – a fresh workspace with the coolest light ever
4 – some very cool lamps
5 – the best IKEA hack I’ve ever seen. Really.
6 – Clu’s Spring/Summer 2012 lookbook

well hello, j. crew

by kmcopeland

I got an email today from my friends at J. Crew informing me that they’re now shipping all the way to Sweden.  And they’re giving me free shipping, free returns and duty-free shopping all the way until April 30th! In celebration of this momentous day, I did a little browsing. Here are a few of my top picks for spring…

some weekend bits

by kmcopeland

The Swede and I had a great weekend – the highlight was a birthday celebration for one of my friends that involved authentic Louisiana hurricanes and lots of dancing. Unfortunately, I did not make it home with any photos worth sharing. I did, however, manage to get a(nother) cracked iPhone. This is, I’m sure, not at all surprising for those of you who know me.

But we also went to Copenhagen last weekend and I just got around to going through the pictures. So I thought I’d share a few of my favourites from that day instead…

on the road: göteborg

by kmcopeland

Back in January, the Swede and I visited Göteborg, a town north of Malmö on the west coast of Sweden. Everyone talks about how it combines the best parts of Stockholm (the beauty) and Malmö (the working class vibe), so it’s been on my “to visit” list pretty much since we moved here a year ago. And even though it coincided with an unexpected work assignment due on Sat. at 1 pm and an even more unexpected a snow storm, it was a lovely weekend.

On Friday we saw Anna Ternheim in concert. She’s touring for her new album, which is amazing, and the concert was one of the best I’ve ever been to. If she comes to your neck of the woods, go. Saturday’s snow storm put a kink in our plans for a walking tour of the city. But Larssons don’t quit. We drink (all day). Our tour took us to a couple of very cool places – the Öl Cafe by Järntorget, a cute bar in Haga, and Hagabion. It’s definitely a city I look forward to visiting in the summer because, let’s face it, everything in Sweden is prettier in the summer.

shades of gray

by kmcopeland

Some things that have caught my eye lately. I know it’s spring and I’m supposed to be all, “I love neons!”, but I could never turn my back on some nice muted neutrals (as long as I get to throw in some mint every now and then).  And that room has the exact feeling I wish my home had. What do you think the secret is?

Also, pug cards are awesome! (Thanks, Camilla!)

1 – Striped Sundress
2 – A lovely room
3 – Survey 12 ounce backpack
4 – Pug notecards

Things of late

by kmcopeland

Over the past few months, I’ve collected a few things (and finally gotten around to putting together the things I already had laying around.) And one day, out of the blue, I realized that this place is finally, finally starting to feel like home.

I love it all, but I think my favourites (besides that precious pug, of course) are the mini salt and pepper shakers and the old family photos. I’ve put up a few of them, but I just really love the one taken of my mom and dad on their wedding day.
